Where did you go to school?

University of Nebraska at Lincoln

What do you do at RMW?

I am a designer and project manager on RMW’s building design projects.

What do you do outside the firm?

I like to ski in Tahoe as much as possible during the winter. I run and bike when the weather turns a little nicer. Usually my wife and I participate in the San Francisco Marathon, either the half or the full marathon, but lately we’ve been enjoying some great hiking with our dog Maggie. Cooking is something we enjoy as well, and we’ve been gardening quite a bit to supplement our eating habits. We also love to backpack and camp whenever we can find the time.

Why did you decide to go into architecture?

I knew from a young age that I wanted to do something that involved art and graphics. I loved to draw as a kid, and when I reached high school, I took an architecture class that gave me a taste of what the profession involved. The chance to design spaces, along with the technical aspects of building a structure, is what drew me in. The energy and creativity in the studio environment at college solidified my decision about what career I wanted to follow.

What is your favorite building or space?

My favorite building I’ve seen in the past five years is the Seattle Public Library, designed by REX and OMA.

What’s your favorite book you’ve read lately?

Favorite read in the past five years would be Cryptonomicon, by Neal Stephenson.
