Where did you go to school?

UC Berkeley and Harvard Graduate School of Design.

What do you do at RMW?

Lead project teams to understand our clients’ building needs and create thoughtful and engaging architectural solutions.

What is your favorite building or space and why?

Great buildings are rare but San Francisco has its share.

Great buildings are rare but San Francisco has its share, so I’ll limit myself to what’s local. For me it’s hard to compare older and historic buildings with buildings from the modern area, so my answer is to pick old and new favorites. It’s hard to argue that Arthur Brown’s Beaux Arts City Hall is not a masterpiece – it scores well against any building of its era from anywhere, as does the Palace Hotel. For modern buildings I like the energy and vitality of Maki’s Yerba Buena Center for the Arts as well as Thom Mayne’s new Federal Building. YBCA_maki_7

What was your favorite philanthropic event last year?

Several of us at the firm support the San Francisco Boys and Girls Clubs, which provide opportunities for kids in many of the underserved neighborhoods of the city. There are a number of events that we like to participate in including spending a day every summer showing a group of San Francisco Boys and Girls Club teens what it means to be an architect or interior designer. A couple of our attendees have gone on to design schools.
