Steve began his long career with RMW in San Francisco in 1980. In 1990, he opened the Sacramento studio and quickly established the practice through his ability to forge trusted relationships with developers, and read and react to market trends. His early embrace of the tilt-up industrial market solidified RMW as a firm of reckoning in the industry and also helped steer the practice through several economic downturns.
A craftsman and maker who gains deep satisfaction from creating objects with his hands, Steve has always preferred hand-drawn plans to computer-generated ones. He is a self-proclaimed audiophile whose passion for music and tinkering comes full circle in his favorite hobby – restoring and reengineering vintage box speakers.
Since his promotion to golfer in 2019, Steve continues to serve in an advisory capacity as Principal Emeritus on a limited number of projects for clients who understandably have a hard time letting go of him. He also continues his legacy of mentorship by supporting the development of RMW’s next generation of architects and designers.
