RMW is excited to announce that Navis has won the 2013 Shaw Contract Group “Design Is…” Award for the U.S. West Coast/Mountain Region. The Shaw Contract Group “Design Is…” award recognizes projects that use a Shaw Contract Group product as the predominant flooring in an innovative or design-forward way.

The Navis project proves that flooring does not have to be a passive element in a design. Throughout the 32,511 square foot office space, carpet accents and cut-outs direct visual and directional flow. Inspired by Navis’ navigational technology products as well as the company’s need to support a dynamic collaborative work environment, the design team chose a flooring design that acts like a compass, guiding circulation and wayfinding. Flooring is installed to align with the angled walls and ceiling scrims and connect to accent paints, supporting the strong directionality of the space. Clean, neutral colors balance pops of marine blues and complement the silver-wrapped exposed ceiling mechanical systems. Both the reception desk and lounge areas are grounded by aqua carpet “pools.”
