SPUR Highlights RMW Project and San Leandro Development

Downtown San Leandro came alive last evening with a SPUR event co-presented by San Leandro by Design and sponsored by Kaiser Permanente. Over 40 guests gathered at the (SL) BART Station, then were led on a walking tour of the city’s current and pending development sites by (SL) Chief Innovation Officer, Deborah Acosta. First stop was the RMW designed San Leandro Tech Campus where Gaye Quinn of Westlake Urban spoke briefly about the campus’ technological features, phase 1 building’s tenant OSIsoft and the SLTC goal of promoting women in tech. Gaye also addressed the recent media attention regarding Truth is Beauty in relation to placemaking and the power of public art to connect the local and extended communities.

The tour continued to 16 other local highlights including new craft beer pub, The Cooler, and Casa Peralta, home of the public art installation Light Sensor Street Activation. James Rojas, interactive urban planning facilitator closed the evening with an entertaining and engaging workshop exercise.
