Job Description:

Assist in predesign and all design phases of large-scale corporate/commercial, R&D laboratories, institutional, multi-story mixed-use projects, including new construction, renovation, tenant improvement, parking garage, and unit plans; research for building codes compliance, barrier free compliance, ADA design and the integration of sustainable concepts into projects; develop site analysis studies requiring site photography, code research, base drawings, and diagrams; utilize independent thinking and 2D/3D CAD and building information modeling programs, including Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Rhino, PhotoShop, Illustrator, InDesign, and freehand sketching with markers, ink, and pencils to develop design concepts and refine them into design solutions, producing clear and compelling design presentations for design and concept development; translate clients’ functional and spatial requirements for structures into feasible design solutions, incorporating LEED sustainable design principles and preparing LEED documentation; exterior envelope design requiring enlarged plans, elevations, sections, details and axonometric drawings; incorporate space planning and custom detailing into designs; develop and produce construction documentation including documenting architectural plans, elevations, and details; participate in project team discussions, meetings with clients, consultants, contractors and public agencies on a given project and coordinate for client and agency review and approval; coordinate with civil, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection (MEP/FP), lighting, landscape, code, zoning, signage, acoustic, security, curtain wall, façade maintenance, special systems, geotechnical and structural consultants to incorporate engineering systems into unified design; perform necessary modifications of drawings and specifications as construction projects progress and changes in dimensions, materials, and other aspects of design arise from client, agency or public input; participate in research and selection of interior and exterior building materials and FF&E (Furniture, Fixtures and Equipment) components required for construction and work with consultants, vendors, product reps, and fabricators to meet overall project objectives; facilitate team internal and external project communications for drawings, specifications and material selections; assist in reviewing accuracy of documents and resolving complex technical and design issues; apply architectural principles to review all related shop drawings, samples, mock ups, and cut sheets on materials & equipment;

manage project data and transmission and all electronic communications using project information management software; BIM organization for all documents; prepare project documents in MS Project, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; assist in the implementation of firm-wide strategies and collaborate with design teams to ensure sustainable design success, provide support and guidance firm-wide, and focus on the seamless rollout of sustainable design implementation in office design; work in conjunction with sustainable design leadership in the continued improvement and development of high performance design to maintain and improve the quality and consistency of design environment and deliverables; process general contractor’s requests for information (RFI’s), submittals, and change order requests; review of structural construction for architectural coordination, HVAC system layout and installation, installation of lighting fixtures, and installation of electrical equipment; construction administration via weekly site visits, issuance of weekly field reports, final inspections, punch lists, and certificates of substantial completion. detailed review of subcontractors shop drawings, submittals/cut sheets on materials & equipment; organize, file and distribute documents utilizing Newforma software; conduct post-occupancy review of clients’ use of space and site; assist in identifying and quantifying tasks outside the scope of the Owner-Architect agreement for negotiation of additional services; assist in establishing task schedule and manpower requirements consistent with the project agreement; assist in identifying weekly project requirements and projecting long term needs; assist in managing project consultant agreements and project budgets.

Job Requirements:

Bachelor of Architecture (5 year) or foreign equivalent plus 6 months of experience to include assisting in predesign and all design phases of large-scale commercial, institutional, and multi-story projects, including new construction, renovation, tenant improvement, and unit plans; researching for building codes compliance, barrier free compliance, ADA design and the integration of sustainable concepts into projects; developing site analysis studies requiring site photography, code research, base drawings, and diagrams; utilizing independent thinking and 2D/3D CAD and building information modeling programs, including AutoCAD, SketchUp, Rhino, PhotoShop, Illustrator, InDesign, and freehand sketching with markers, ink, and pencils to develop design concepts and refine them into design solutions, producing clear and compelling design presentations for design and concept development; translating clients’ functional and spatial requirements for structures into feasible design solutions, incorporating LEED sustainable design principles and preparing LEED documentation; exterior envelope design requiring enlarged
