Job Captain

We are currently experiencing exciting growth and seeking an architecture job captain to play a pivotal role in our San Francisco studio.

Role:

The Job Captain sets up documents for a range of project types from the initial phases. Responsible for the architectural and/or interior design drawing tasks, detailing, construction materials, specifications, building codes / approvals process and construction observation. May work independently on small-scale projects or within a larger design team on larger, more complex projects. Coordinates the work of major consultants and interprets their plans and specifications. This position will have direct interaction with clients on both architectural and interiors projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Works with team to advance the design into technical documents.
  • Communicates with Project Manager/Project Architect on program, design, budget and schedule for timely and appropriate design development.
  • Selects method of drawing and documentation suitable for the project and client type. Prepares presentations and documents under the guidance of a Project Manager.
  • Strategizes the content and prepares the framework drawing set during all phases of the project(s) and in coordination with project plan.
  • Coordinates with Project Manager / Project Architect and disseminates to project team the project schedule and budget.
  • Responsible for researching and implementing building code and municipal requirements.
  • Obtains data, prepares information required by specifications writer and coordinates preparation of specifications
  • Provides supervision and initial quality-control review of team. Enlists technical leads for QAQC full reviews.
  • Validates materials, finishes, furniture and building systems that align with project goals, including sustainability and accessibility requirements.
  • Develops solutions integrating building systems, structure, and technology requirements.
  • Coordinates all consultants’ work during the design, documentation and constructions administration phases with Project Manager/Project Architect oversight.
  • Conducts Construction Administration with site observations, RFIs and submittals with Project Manager/Project Architect oversight.

Qualifications / Soft Skills:

  • Professional degree or recognized equivalent
  • Experience in design, preparing drawings and project documents and consultant coordination
  • License and/or credentials encouraged
  • 7+ years of experience including coordinating technical projects, resources and project consultants
  • Commitment to design excellence and document quality
  • Experience in design development and detailing on a wide variety of project types
  • Strong follow-through and attention to detail with excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to excel in a creative and collaborative studio environment
  • Strong desire to collaborate and learn from the team
  • Agility to work across multiple assignments within a team structure
  • Highly effective interpersonal skills and able to bring your unique point of view

Salary pay range is $90,000 – $115,000/ per year.
