Jane Homma-Tan
AIA, NCARB
Jane grew up in a creative household with parents who attended an art university in Japan. Her father, a furniture designer, and her mother, an artist skilled in anything from Japanese traditional sweets (wagashi) and performance costume design, exposed her to the world of high-quality, purpose-driven design. These experiences instilled in her a love for artistry coupled with practical utility, something she has carried into her architectural work.
Jane’s approach to architecture is guided by the Buddhist philosophy of finding balance. She strives to bring calm, order, and clarity to every project, solving problems with a thoughtful, measured approach. Her focus on efficiency, functionality, and user-centric design ensures that her projects not only meet but often exceed client expectations. Jane’s technical expertise and attention to detail are key strengths, and she is adamant about collaborating with contractors and field inspectors to ensure designs are executed as envisioned. She is known for her ability to stay calm under pressure, bringing a steady hand to even the most challenging projects. Her ultimate goal is to earn the trust and respect of her clients and team members, fostering an environment of collaboration where everyone’s voice is heard. Any client would be fortunate to have her on their team, knowing that she will approach their project with integrity, creativity, and a relentless commitment to excellence.
When she’s not designing, Jane enjoys baking with her children, knitting, swimming, and connecting with her Japanese heritage through cuisine. She finds creative rejuvenation in meditation and being in the water and draws inspiration from the clean, purposeful lines of traditional Japanese tea rooms.
