Carpenter’s Training Centers of Northern California
Pleasanton & Morgan Hill, CA
The build-to-suit facilities designed for the Carpenter’s Training Committee of Northern California serve as vocational schools providing classroom instruction and hands-on training for union apprentices, as well as continuing education for journeymen. RMW has completed training centers in Fairfield, Pleasanton, and Morgan Hill, with one soon to come in Fresno.
Pleasanton
At the Pleasanton facility, training is specifically for carpenters, welders, drywall/lathers, and acoustical installers. The floor plan of the 87,000 sf building centers around a 36,000 sf open workshop space with 25-foot ceilings that accommodate training on scissor and boom lift equipment. A generous 50-booth welding shop is included in the expansive shop area, which is bordered by eleven instructional classrooms and the administrative offices. On the second floor are seven additional classrooms, the acoustical ceiling shop, a bookstore, and a breakroom. The second-floor corridor provides an opportunity to observe the training activities in the workshop below.

Morgan Hill
In Morgan Hill, apprentices learning carpentry, drywalling, lathing, flooring, insulation, scaffolding, and shingling are able to study in one of the eight modern classrooms, and then reinforce what they’ve learned through hands-on experience in the adjacent 37,500 sf shop. The shop area is equipped with sacrificial and replaceable plywood flooring that enables students to anchor their projects to the floor. A 5,000 sf twenty-booth welding shop allows training for both electric and gas welding.

These modern training facilities, which also have outdoor training yards, are helping Northern California to meet the growing demand for a skilled carpenter workforce capable of delivering the highest quality construction services.
