The Oak Grove Wellness Clinic & Peer Resilience Center was created to support Contra Costa County’s vision for a compassionate, community focused approach to mental and behavioral health care. Located within a county owned campus, the 11,504 sf project renovates existing buildings while preserving the site’s overall campus organization, transforming them into a welcoming environment where individuals can access wellness services, peer support, and behavioral health resources.

RMW’s design approach focused on creating an experience that balances safety, accessibility, and dignity. The campus is organized around a series of interconnected services that support both visitors and staff, including wellness clinic functions, peer resilience spaces, administrative support areas, and a dedicated crisis response call center. Careful planning and security zoning help ensure that each program area operates efficiently while maintaining a comfortable experience for users.

The project included the renovation of two existing buildings and the revitalization of the surrounding site, creating a cohesive campus environment designed around wellness and recovery. New landscaping, outdoor gathering spaces, shaded seating areas, and a reimagined courtyard extend opportunities for connection and reflection beyond the building interiors. Site improvements also support long term sustainability and campus functionality.

Inside, the design team developed distinct interior experiences that draw inspiration from nature. Calming material palettes, warm finishes, and restorative spaces help create environments that feel welcoming rather than institutional. Nature influenced colors and textures reinforce a sense of comfort and renewal while supporting the emotional wellbeing of those using the facility.

The completed campus provides Contra Costa County with an important community resource that expands access to mental and behavioral health services while creating a supportive environment for wellness, resilience, and care.

A forgotten site. A new purpose.

What was once a vacant and deteriorating property has been transformed into a community resource that elevated the surrounding neighborhood.
